“Earth’s Next Last Chance”…?
George F. Will, well-regarded Op-Ed Columnist for The Washington Post, wrote a compelling article yesterday, December 8th, that was also carried by The Palm Beach Post.
One paragraph really jumped out at me, and I wanted to share it with our local 912ers for discussion. The article discusses some of the complexity (and indeed, contradictions) of the issues pending in the upcoming climate change meeting in Copenhagan that President Obama will be representing the interests of the United States at. This paragraph states:
” President Obama, understanding the histrionics required in climate change debates, promises that U.S. emissions in 2050 will be 83 percent (! -ed.) below 2005 levels. If so, 2050 emissions will equal those in 1910, when there were 92 million Americans. But there will be 420 million in 2050, so Mr. Obama’s promise means that per capita emissions then will beabout what they were in 1875. That. Will. Not. Happen.”
