An unexpected win in Kentucky – a teachable moment for us!

This morning, while watching one of the Sunday news analysis shows, we heard about a special state senate election in Kentucky that became a referendum on national issues. “Voters in the 14th District elected Republican Jimmy Higdon over Democrat Jodie Haydon by 12 points. That’s significant in a district that leans Democratic by more than 2 to 1, and where Democrats and their allies spent more than $1 million, perhaps twice what the GOP did.” (emphasis mine)

While many downplayed governorship wins in VA and NJ and the impact of national policies on local elections in Congressional District 23 in NY, the details of this particular KY race differed in that the Republican candidate focused on national issues.

Details here from WSJ and here from The Hill.

This is a “teachable moment” for us as we head into our own District 19 primary and special election!
