South Florida 912 recognized by Heritage Foundation
Yesterday, Shannon Armstrong received a mysterious box full of unsolicited goodies from the Heritage Foundation. Along with the books and numerous pocket constitutions was an award certificate for the “Henry Salvatori Prize for American Citizenship”.
A few months ago, several South Florida 912 members attended a Heritage Foundation presentation to the FAU YAF (Young Americans for Freedom) by Robert Gordon, Senior Advisor for Strategic Research. Shannon spent a little time talking with him after the event and describing our group. We figured that this package probably had something to do with this encounter.
Shannon did a little digging and found an article on the Heritage Foundation website describing this year’s recipients:
The nationwide tea party movement is the most significant citizen effort in our times that seeks to revive America’s founding principles,” said Matthew Spalding, Heritage scholar and author of We Still Hold These Truths: Rediscovering Our Principles, Reclaiming Our Future (ISI, 2009). “It is hard to think of a more appropriate recipient.”
The article also states:
Rather than recognizing one individual or group, the prize will be used to expand the popular distribution of Heritage’s pocket Constitutions and fact sheets to tea party groups, and to provide “First Principles Field Kits” of monographs and books to movement leaders nationwide
We’re honored that Shannon and South Florida 912 was recognized as one of the groups receiving this field kit.
