9.11.01 Memorial Plaza in Palm Beach Gardens dedication next Saturday

On the 11th of this month at 11:30am, Fire Station #3 in Palm Beach Gardens will be dedicating a memorial plaza honoring those who died at the World Trade Center 9 years ago.  The center-piece of the plaza is a 32-foot high section of steel upright that once stood between the 12th and 15th floors of the south tower of the World Trade Center, until 9:59am on that fateful day.  You can read more about the memorial, and see artist renderings of the site here.  The Fire Station is on Northlake Boulevard west of I-95, between Military Trail and Christ Fellowship Church.  My family and I will be there to pay our respects, and mark the somber anniversary.  I hope you’ll join us.

UPDATE — they just erected the upright today, if you have to be driving near the firehouse in your travels between now and this weekend, you can see how tall it is (3 stories high). They’ve draped a black “curtain” of sorts over it’s entire length, but it’s pretty sheer fabric, so the outline is unmistakable. Very majestic.

I attended the memorial and it brought back memories of that tragic day. I felt emotionally moved by the prayers, the songs, the speakers. The monument is impressive.
