The town of Palm Beach County Budget Task Force (like South Florida 912, a TAB coalition partner), hosted a meeting of elected officials of towns and cities throughout the county yesterday, asking them to join with the task force and TAB to advocate against another year of tax increases on the county level.
The attendees were given a presentation of the TAB work on budget trends by Fred Scheibl, as well as the prelimnary “TAB Proposal” for the 2012 budget which includes no tax hike, probably requiring about $60M in spending cuts or dipping into reserves. The proposal is preliminary because the county has not published a budget estimate and doesn’t expect to have one until May, prior to the first budget workshop on June 13.
The proposal also includes suggestions for Charter changes (including a county “Smart Cap”) and has analysed the likely savings possible with FRS reform requiring employee contributions. See the chart package for details on the proposal.

South Florida Tea Party
NOTE: No matter which Tea Party you attend, remember to bring signs regarding the Tea Party movement. The Tea Party started because of federal bailouts, out-of-control spending and too much government involvement in Americans’ lives. On Thursday, April 7, at 10 am the West Palm Beach Century Village will host the monthly meeting of the CV 912 Super Seniors. We will meet in the main clubhouse and we welcome every Senior who is concerned about staying informed in a rapidly changing environment.
The changes in healthcare as they are occurring and changes to come will be discussed. Also, we will be working on the Senior Pamphleteer project which is the newest challenge for the Super Seniors.
Seniors are welcome to bring articles of interest to share as well as suggestions for topics to be discussed. We will cover several current concerns , especially the rising prices of groceries and of gasoline.
Bring a friend as we come together to educate ourselves and each other, empower Seniors to use their influence effectively, and act as individuals or groups according to each one’s goals.
This is a gated community. If you live outside Century Village and would like to be called in as our guest, please email your request to CV912SuperSeniors@gmail.com

The Republican Club of Central Palm Beach County would like to invite you to join us for our April meeting, Thursday, April 27th at the Atlantis Country Club, 190 Atlantis Drive in the City of Atlantis from 6 PM to about 8 PM. $12 Members, $15 non-members which includes a drink from the bar and nice hors d’oeuvres.
The National Director of the National Association for the Advancement of Conservative People of ALL Colors is our April speaker. Reviews of his talks are all in superlatives. Don’t miss the April 7th meeting and please bring a guest who might learn something important for the future of our Republic.
Frantz Kebreau, 43, is an avowed conservative, an unapologetic supporter of the tea party — and a black man. He, along with his tea party friend and partner, Lloyd Marcus, call themselves “un-hyphenated Americans.” Neither like the term, African- American, preferring just plain “American.” “If you continue to consider yourself a minority, you will never bridge the gap to equality,” he says. Frantz is the son of Haitian immigrants, has a wife and five children and they live in Brevard County. He’s an airline pilot now after serving 10 years all over the world as a Navy pilot. He believes in the equality of opportunity over the equality of results which brought him to agreeing with Republicans that entitlement programs like welfare hurt recipients because it continues an idea that some Americans are lesser than others.
When: April 5th, 2011 at 6pm
Where: Government Center, 301 N. Olive, WPB Sixth Floor in the Commission Chambers
Excuses, Excuses………. over the last couple of years many of us interested in county issues have used as an excuse that we can’t speak up at the PBC Board of County Commissioners meetings because they’re held during the day. Sound familiar? There’s only so many times those of us who do attend can say ‘we represent a large group of people who are too busy earning a living to come’. So now – it’s your turn!!
The commissioners are doing this as an experiment. Up until now, evening meetings have been relegated to topics such as the two budget workshops held in September. The upcoming meeting will be a regular agenda meeting – with focus on the upcoming Charter Review.
The Agenda for the evening can be found here. Public comment will begin at 7pm – this is the monthly comment time when one can discuss any subject. A key item will be 5A1 – the upcoming Charter Review. Details and schedule are included here. As we’ve mentioned in prior South Florida 912 meetings – the Charter is our county’s constitution and the review over the next several months will be soliciting public input at meetings and online – so this does matter to YOU!
Lots of video cameras were turned on the speakers on Sunday. Here’s a group of them – comment on which one you like the best.

Great turnout for the 2nd anniversary of South Florida 912.
Thanks to all the volunteers who set it up and broke it down, and to our sister groups DC Works for US, South Florida Tea Party, Fort Lauderdale Tea Party, the Christian Coalition for supporting us at the event. Thanks to all our speakers, especially Adam Hasner and Congressman Allen West. Thanks to Big Al’s Steaks for the great food, and to Michele Poole for donating our fundraising week in a chalet (won by Grant and Kim Winker).
We hope all our members and guests enjoyed a few hours in the great Florida weather and will come and join us throughout the year at monthly meetings and events.

Today’s remarks were resounding. While he states he is not running for POTUS, he does promote a vision that we can all get behind. And as always, he is very entertaining…
